5 Poolside Reads - 2020 Great Summer Books for Moms
*This post does contain affiliate links, all of these novels can be found on Amazon and easily purchased right here! Or at your local bookstore, I always highly recommend shopping local! My top 5 poolside (or beachy) summer reads for moms:Little Fires EverywhereLittle Fires Everywhere Author: Celeste Ng Celeste Ng tells an amazing story set in Shaker Heights a suburb of Cleveland and an extremely planned community (think measuring the grass height type of community). It is full of family drama, defined classes in society, racial tension, and lots of secrets uncovered, strong mother-daughter themes. Little Fires Everywhere is also a HULU original series starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. I highly recommend reading the book first. As usual, when transforming a book into movie or series form things are changed and added. If you are a book lover - read the book first! #thesosblog Quick Content Review: Language: moderate Sexual Content: tastefully described / mild Where’d You Go, BernadetteWhere'd You Go Bernadette Author: Maria Semple The writing is entertaining, often humorous, and keeps you filled with anticipation! Making this a perfect beach read or poolside choice! Set in Seattle Washington a mystery ensues when Bee’s mother Bernadette disappears. She is determined to find her mother and we, the readers, are taken through all of her twists and turns to wonder the whole time - where in the world is Bernadette? This story is both light and deep at times. My favorite kind of story. Fun to read but it means something too. Where’d You Go Bernadette was made into a movie in 2019 starring Cate Blanchet available on Amazon Prime, of course, I always recommend the book first! Full Book Review on #thesosblog! #thesosblog Quick Content Review: Language: Very minimal. Some profanities sprinkled throughout. Sexual Content: none - there is an “almost” kind of leading up to something situation, but really nothing. The Water is WideThe Water is Wide Author: Natalie Banks Romance and suspense? Yes, please! Natalie expertly takes us through a love story and keeps us guessing throughout. Set on the US East Coast from North Carolina to Boston with a brief stop in Mexico you will feel like you are seeing the sights for yourself with Natalie’s beautiful setting descriptions. A young widow, Sarah Avery, and her two young boys are trying to rebuild their lives after their father’s sudden death. Natalie takes us through the years that follow including finding a new love for Sarah. Think you know how this story goes? Think again...this is a page-turner with very unexpected twists! Full book reveiw on #thesosblog! #thesosblog Quick Content Review: Language: profanities, very little sprinkled throughout Sexual Content: tastefully described, moderate depictions When Life Gives you LululemonsWhen Life Gives You Lululemons Author: Lauren Weisberger Set in pristine Greenwich, Connecticut where 3 unlikely friends band together in unexpected ways. A funny, contemporary story that is full of wit, charm, and gives us a peek into an over the top world full of sexy settings, situations, and regular mom life too. This is a novel about relationships and life with just enough normal mixed in with crazy rich over the top. Lauren is charming and witty in her telling of this story. You won’t want to put it down! Lauren Weisberger also happens to be the author of The Devil Wears Prada - do you remember that movie? I think I need to add that one to my reading list! #thesosblog Quick Content Review: Language: profanities sprinkled throughout. Sexual Content: moderate depictions and situations Nine Perfect StrangersNine Perfect Strangers Author: Liane Moriarty Set in Australia, this book is about 9 strangers who end up at a health resort. The kind of health resort people go to so they can detox from life. No phones, no internet, lots of rules, a strict schedule. More like a rehab facility but voluntary and for different reasons, not necessarily drugs or alcohol. Not all 9 people are actual strangers, some are related but as the story unfolds they realize they have been strangers even though they are family. Liane builds strong characters and is an amazing storyteller.
