Average Alice
Average Alice on #thesosblog is an extension of a Medium Publication I started. Medium is an online magazine"ish" platform full of great, ad-free, content about unlimited topics! Its a place for writers and readers. It is a membership site however without a membership you can read up to 3 articles per month. Memberships are $5 per month for unlimited reading. The money goes to paying writers! For example, I might make a few dollars on a post based on how many people read the post. I'd love for you to follow me on Medium! |
Hi! It may sound cliche in a sea of blogs that all say the same but I've come to realize - all bloggers who greet you this way mean it! I'm so happy you are here! Thank you for visiting #thesosblog, and clicking the "about" to virtually meet me!
I'm Heidi, founder of the SOS Blog, Simply Our Society. A few of my favorite things = books, brews (all the brews - beer, coffee, tea...), my family, crocheting (a new"ish" hobby), and writing! As the content manager and main contributor for the SOS Blog, it is my desire to provide quality content, reliable resources, and an easy, beautiful, user-friendly format for women of all ages looking for inspiration and encouragement in life. I graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia with a double major in Sociology and Psychology. Currently I live in the Nashville area with my husband and youngest daughter - empty nesting is in our near future! I'm not sure yet how I feel about that! My writing pursuits have brought me to a professional writing job as a content writer for Content Cucumber. I love it! I also write and post on Medium and Newsbreak. My social media is not consistently active (sorry!) but I would still love to connect there. When I do interact on social it is most often through Instagram. What's my niche? I don't really have one (big blogging mistake!) The problem is I just can't niche down. Life is messy and complicated. So am I. As women we wear so many hats I can't bring myself to pick just one so on #thesosblog you will find everythign from recipes to heartfelt, gushing #momlife posts. I am trying to clean up the site so stay tuned! |
SOSblog beginnings & background
A little bit about me....my name is Heidi and I started this blog as a "43 year old believer in God, wife of 21+ years, mother of 3 girls. Passionate about people and society" and didn't have the courage to do much with it since then. I am now 47 (now 51!), I am still a believer, a wife for over 25 (29) years and still the mother of 3 girls but now only 2 (1) lives at home. Along with our sweet pups, Gracie our rescue, and Dazie our Rottie.

Recently the idea of this blog site and what it would become has taken a drastic shift. My vision has changed both in life and for this site. I am still passionate about people and society, about books, poetry, writing and preserving print and history through print. The difference is some life experiences have humbled me to the point of loving people and society passionately rather than just being passionate about people and society. The difference is instead of thinking I need to write what I see to bring any correction or attention to anything,
I have been humbled to the point of seeing people and society through a filter of love, equality and gentleness where before I had a filter of right, wrong and harshness.
I have experienced abandonment, abuse (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and financial), lived with an eating disorder, waded through multi-level marketing, the mega-church world, volunteered my life away for many years and was deeply entrenched in a quasi-cult like Christian organization that almost cost me my relationship with my child and did cost me many relationships along the way to finally reaching a place of true freedom in life.
It is these experiences that I reference above when I say "the difference is some life experiences have humbled me". These experiences are the ones that draw me to love and freedom. It is these experiences that motivate me to share my words and life with whomever wants to read and relate.
Simply Our Society, which I affectionately refer to as the #SOSblog, has a special focus on Momlife, Midlife and Mental Health. These three areas are near and dear to me because
1. I am a mom
2. I am in midlife
3. I have lived with and recovered from an eating disorder, I am a sister who was abandoned by my sister who took her own life, I majored in psychology and sociology in school and have a passion for mental health which I believe affects every area of our lives.
This site and my work are ever evolving. You will find some other things around the SOSblog such as book reviews and poetry (which are connected to my own mental health). I dabble in photography some of which is on this site but most often on Instagram along with mini blog posts. Please join me there: simplyoursocietyblog I would love to connect and interact with you there!
