Until I Say Goodbye

Capturing my heart and mind quickly, Until I Say Goodbye by Susan Spencer-Wendel, was a true paradigm shifting experience. A refreshing reminder to LIVE the life you have and love the ones your are with on the way. The full title is Until I Say Goodbye My Year of Living with Joy. A very accurate title as the book allows us to see and feel the joy she really did live. A joy full of laughter, tears, memories made and memories remembered, love and the messiness of everyday life.

Until I Say Goodbye My Year of Living with Joy was written during the year following her diagnosis of ALS. Susan takes us through this year of her life from her point of view but in the process we meet her family and friends. We peek into the true selfless love story she shared with her husband. We meet her complicated Greek family and her complicated suburban, American, Baptist family. ​

A little bit about Susan Spencer-Wendel:

In June 2011, Susan Spencer-Wendel learned she had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)—Lou Gehrig’s disease, an irreversible condition that systematically destroys the nerves that power the muscles. While Susan cannot stop the rapid decline of her body and her inevitable death, she refuses to give up on life. A woman of immense strength and indomitable spirit, the forty-five-year-old mother of three has made every day count.

Regardless of where you are in life, man or woman, young or old I believe this is a story anyone can relate with on some level.

After reading this book I have made some changes. Less worry about things that don't matter and more focus on things that do matter. Although Susan's faith journey is very different from mine, my faith grew stronger and my love of people more powerful.
