In June 2011, Susan Spencer-Wendel learned she had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)—Lou Gehrig’s disease, an irreversible condition that systematically destroys the nerves that power the muscles. While Susan cannot stop the rapid decline of her body and her inevitable death, she refuses to give up on life. A woman of immense strength and indomitable spirit, the forty-five-year-old mother of three has made every day count. Regardless of where you are in life, man or woman, young or old I believe this is a story anyone can relate with on some level.
After reading this book I have made some changes. Less worry about things that don't matter and more focus on things that do matter. Although Susan's faith journey is very different from mine, my faith grew stronger and my love of people more powerful. As you embark on this joy filled year of life with Susan Spencer-Wendel, I hope you too will feel joy, peace and hope through your laughter and tears. Happy, heartfelt reading!
