Keto Taco Seasoning (or anytime Taco Seasoning)
by: Heidi Suydam
changes I made at the beginning of that journey. One of those was eliminating chemicals as much as possible.
Last year my family and I started our Keto Journey. I learned a whole lot more about what we unknowingly eat every day and discovered sugar is hidden everywhere!
Low Carb, sugar free tacos are very satisfying and making our own seasoning is a key component!
Taco seasoning packets usually contain maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, some contain ethoxyquin and almost all contain a potato or corn starch.
If you research these common chemicals found in our foods you will find most are FDA approved “in small doses”.
The problem is you will find these in the majority of prepared foods from crackers to cheaper versions of stevia (yes even when you think you are making a “good” or “better” choice if you are serious about reducing chemicals in your food read the labels!).
Do we really know exactly how much of each of these toxic chemicals we are consuming? No!
The big question everyone is asking - is McCormick Taco Seasoning Keto Friendly?
The answer = it isn't necessarily NOT Keto Friendly but does add potato or corn starch in the basic taco seasoning mix. Inadvertently adding a few extra net carbs to your day. When using Cheesy Taco Seasoning mix or anything other than the basic taco seasoning mix you will find a much larger list of ingredients to consider and possibly more carbs.
Instead of trying to figure that out I started to avoid them as much as possible.
Taco Seasoning is super easy to make and keep for a while! The key is to use an air tight container.
I use this easy recipe and usually double it. I keep some made up and seal it in a jar to have on hand and ready.
You could also just mix it up as needed.
