3 Zero Waste, Sustainable Beauty Products I Use Daily
Wait, microfiber is for cleaning right? Well yes but not just for your house or your car...you can (and should!) use microfiber on your body and face.
I use Norwex Products however using any type of microfiber on your body is good for your skin, Norwex has some benefits other microfiber cloths do not have and I will cover those here - one being self purifying properties so you always have a clean cloth to use. When making choices about health and beauty products it is important to understand what we are using, why we are using it and then make decisions based on our health/non-toxic standards and budget! Here I will discuss why microfiber and why does it work, also why do I choose Norwex Microfiber to be specific - but again, choosing any microfiber for your skin care is better than using harsher towels on your face! (#thesosblog is always about options!)
It is no secret that using gentle products that are free from chemicals is much better for your skin and health. Most of us opt for whatever we can grab at Target or Walmart when it comes to wash cloths, towels, cotton rounds or cotton balls to use on our faces. I used to do this too. All.The.Time.
According to Minimalist Beauty “Micorfiber cloths completely remove makeup gently exfoliate skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkes, diinish acne, whiteheads and blackheads, minimize scars and clear clogged pores from dirt and bacteria all while not disruptin the PH levels in your skin.”
Dawn Michelle of Minimalist Beauty tested a $4 pack of microfiber cloths from Marshalls and a pack of microfiber cloths from the car department at Target.
Conclusion - both worked. Microfiber is gentle on your skin. What is Microfiber anyway? In order to be considered true Microfiber, in the US the fiber in the cloth has to be 1/6th the diameter of a human hair, some better quality microfiber may be 1/100th the diameter of a human hair. That is smaller than a strand of silk! These extremely small fibers allow cleaning on a microscopic scale, because of this microscopic cleaning power these cloths can remove up to 99% of the bacteria from what they are cleaning, while absorbing dirt and oils. * Why I prefer using Microfiber from Norwex.
Not only that, the items listed here all have Norwex patented BackLock technology using micro-silver, a unique antibacterial agent within the fibers giving these items the ability to self purify between uses when you follow these simple cloth care instructions – after using, rinse in warm water, wring it out, hang to dry! That’s it! By doing this you are always using a clean cloth on your body and face. Here are my 3 favorites and Body/Beauty Care Microfiber Cloths I use every day: 1. Norwex Body Cloth
A super soft cloth made from Norwex Microfiber, gently removes dirt, oils, bacteria from the skin with water only! Rinse in warm water, hang to dry and the cloth is clean and ready for you to use the next time you shower or wash your face.
I have one I keep at my sink, strictly for washing my face at night (in addition to the make up remover cloth!). I have another one in the shower. These cloths come in a pack of 3 and a 2 year warranty. With proper use and care these cloths will last a long time! Pro Tip – do not use with oils, I used to pre-wash my face with coconut oil and ruined a cloth this way. Any type of oily cleanser will coat the fibers of the cloth. 2. Microfiber Makeup Remover Cloth
The weave of this cloth is extra soft and silky. With water only remove your eye makeup and mascara easily and without harsh cleansers or oily make up removers. No more getting cleanser or oil in your eyes with this cloth!
Also, reduce waste because you won’t need tissues, cotton balls or cotton rounds along with that cleanser or oil. Use these with water only and you will experience the benefits of soft, natural microfiber on your eyelids and around your your eyes. I use this on my eyes and on my face to remove makeup prior to cleansing. These makeup remover cloths are also made with Norwex Patented BackLock technology, allowing them to self purify between uses. Bonus! They also come with a 2 year warranty! Pro-Tip: They will become somewhat stained with lots of eye make up and mascara removal uses but will stay soft and effective, when cared for properly. 3. Reusable Face Pads
This is a new item introduced in 2019 and one I just tried recently. So amazingly soft!
Also made with Norwex Microfiber with BackLock technology I now use these when applying toner. I do still have a more traditional skin care routine and previously used lots of cotton rounds or tissues to apply toner. I have discovered this amazing product is not only so gentle on my skin I am also able to use less toner per application. The soft, tiny fibers hold the toner without completely absorbing it so as I apply the toner to my face while using the Norwex Facial Pad I do not have to have as much toner on the pad. These come in a pack of 5 with a sturdy washing pouch. They are very small so when it is time to wash them in the washing machine you don’t want to lose them. Natural Cleaning is not just for our homes but for our bodies too!Do you use microfiber cloths for your face and body? Do you use any sustainable products in your beauty routine? If so I would love to know what they are! Please share in the comments. Visit #thesosblog shop to see more of our favorite Health & Beauty products! Stay Beautiful! Thank you so much for this information about the microfiber cloth’s! While I am a big fan of microfiber for cleaning in the house, I never considered it for my face or body. Will definitely look into this!

Kim - coconut oil will ruin the fibers of the cloth. I used to use coconut oil as well, now I use a Norwex Microfiber cloth first and usually it removes all my eye makeup. If I have a little mascara left I use the oil after the cloth.
